Jen Wellnitz said her first stop after Saturday’s WIAA Division 3 state girls track and field meet would not be the washing machine.

Instead, she planned to make a beeline for the trash bin.

The Black Hawk junior had some nike air max 1 business to conduct with a holey, foul-smelling pair of socks — the same socks that carried her to victory in her favorite event, the 100-meter dash.

“I’ve got to throw these things in the garbage,” Wellnitz said, taking off her shoes to reveal the beaten-up footwear she had worn for every big race this season.

She didn’t plan to wear the socks for cheap nike air max Saturday’s final, but had a second thought and went back to grab them before returning to win the final in 12.73 seconds.

“I was wearing these new Nike socks, but I was worried that they weren’t legal (due to the logo). I asked an official and he said he didn’t know,” Wellnitz said. “So I ran back to the dorm and put on the same old air max sale socks as yesterday — nasty, I know — and ran back here.”

Wellnitz also finished fourth in the 200 (26.49 seconds) and 10th in the triple jump (33 feet 10¾ inches) after taking sixth in the long jump on Friday.
